Tragedy on the Bottom of Food Chain--Hawk vs Baby Chicks European Starling

↑ European Starlings come to this tree this time every year to multiply.
One home
with 3 entrances, made by Acorn Woodpecker years ago,
and they take turn to use, an excellent example of "timeshare"
Mama has been busy to feed little chicks' hungry mouths as always.

Yesterday 5/25, it was little different, One Sharp-shinned Hawk, a bird eater, visited our
front yard, and standing on the mowerWasted no time,
I took the pics of hawk's mean
look from inside of the window. Camera was next to me, very handy!

After some shots, hawk flew onto the tree immediately when I stepped out.
The Mama was under great stress. A few seconds, they both disappieredThe time was 7:45 pm.

5/26 The tree is silent, and this is the tragedy on the bottom of the food chain.
